Somalia’s President Meets Dozens of Youths Ahead of Elections

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo met dozens of youths at the presidential palace with only a few months to go until the country’s elections.

The President speaking at the event stated that Somali youths have long been distanced from politics and his government used all means to give them an opportunity to participate in the political spectrum.

Mr Farmajo referring to growing backlash over the inclusion of intelligence agents and state employees in the federal and regional electoral commissions, said opposition statements arguing that unknown people appeared in the lists of committees only aimed to distance youths from politics.

As political candidates running for Somalia’s president have set their campaigns in motion, Mr Farmajo informed youths in attendance at the event about prospective opportunities his administration opened up for them and reiterated that there was greater need for youth participation in political processes.
