NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Tigrayan rebels said on Wednesday Ethiopia’s military had begun attacks targeting the positions of its fighters in western Tigray breaking humanitarian truce and dashing hopes for the start of peace talks to end the 20-month-long conflict.
“The So-called Peace Committee established by the Abiy Ahmed regime is engaged in its usual game of obfuscation to hoodwink the international community while its forces are actively provoking our forces in various fronts,” Getachew Reda, spokesman of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) tweeted.
They have openly defied their oft-repeated promise to take measures aimed at creating conducive environment for peaceful negotiations such as ensuring unfettered humanitarian access and restoration of services to Tigray.”
He alleged that the Ethiopian government was planning to launch another “round of genocidal campaign against the people of Tigray” in an effort aimed at delaying peace talks.
Several Tigrayan media outlets have reported that Ethiopia’s military using tanks and artillery shelled positions of Tigray forces in Dedebit in western Tigray, adding that the attack lasted for an hour on Monday. Casualties are still unknown.
