MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Ten mortar bombs fell on Tuesday night inside Somalia’s Dhusamareb airport, which houses Djibouti’s AMISOM troops, leaving at least 3 soldiers wounded, military sources have told Somaliguardian.
The military sources said the mortar bombs fell inside an AMISOM military base at Dhusamareb airport, which is about 511km north of the capital Mogadishu. Flights carrying Somali federal and regional leaders have been arriving at the airport as talks between the two sides continued there, a few months ago.
At least three AMISOM soldiers are said to have been wounded in the overnight mortar bombardment thought to have been carried out by Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab Islamist group.
The group has recently stepped up attacks targeting AMISOM and government troops in Dhusamareb and other parts of the region since Ahlusunna Sufi militias were driven out from key major towns in Galgadud region in a military offensive led by the federal government, earlier this year.
Multiple mortar and direct attacks have targeted Dhusamareb airport in the past few weeks, years after the city enjoyed a relative stability under Ethiopia-backed Sufi militias.
