The president speaking to MPs at the parliament hall in Mogadishu stressed that a political agreement was earlier reached with federal member states in Baidoa – which sought to hold a popular election in 2020 and that Dhusamareb deal is yet “another political agreement that nullifies previously agreed terms”.

“Between July 18 – 22, consultative conference on elections opened in the town of Dhusamareb that had in attendance the leaders of the regional states and the federal government with the aim of discussing the process of upcoming elections to reach a political agreement in compliance with the constitution. “The federal government and federal member states reached a political agreement in Baidoa in 2018, this is a second agreement that invalidates earlier signed terms.” the president added in an apparent tone of dissatisfaction with international community bolstered Dhusamareb conference.

During his remarks, the president promised that he will return any deal reached with federal member states to the parliament for approval, adding that MPs represent their respective regional states and the nation as a whole.
