MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somali Senator Osman Mohamud Dufle survived an assassination attempt after his vehicle was targeted by a roadside bomb explosion near the presidential palace in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu on Saturday night.

Reports say the Senator was driving past a popular hotel on the way inside the security perimeter of president Farmajo’s palace, when roadside bomb detonated.

At least two of his bodyguards are reported to have been wounded in the attack which took place during a busy rush hour on Saturday evening.

Mr Dufle, a popular doctor and Senator has not yet commented on the assassination attempt on his life as local security officials have also made no media briefings in regards to the attack.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab often carries out explosions and other direct assaults hitting high-profile government and AU targets in the capital and other cities in restive south Somalia.
