MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s parliament has approved Saturday the new cabinet of ministers recently named by prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, a few months to go until the country’s elections.
Somali Prime Minister urged parliament to endorse his new cabinet of ministers, saying they were selected due to their commitment, hard work and diligence to take the country forward and lead efforts toward holding timely elections.
The new cabinet was approved by 188 votes in favor and no MPs rejected or abstained from voting.
In an address to MPs, prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said his government would give security a higher priority to advance further towards progress and urged citizens to cooperate with his government in ensuring intended achievements.
In addition, he promised to hold elections on time and called on federal member states to expedite the appointment of their representatives in the joint federal and regional electoral commission.
The cabinet includes several members of the outgoing government among them Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled, Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad, Minister of Health Fowsiya Abikar and the Minister of Finance Abdirahman Duale Bayle.
The new cabinet was sworn in soon after the speaker of parliament Mohamed Mursal announced that MPs unanimously endorsed the new government.
