MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A military court in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Thursday handed down death and jail sentences to 19 government soldiers while ruling that their commander, who had clashed with security forces on August 19, to pay blood money.

Following more than a week-long hearing, the court ruled that General Shegow, an army officer whose house was raided by security forces for allegedly harboring robbers and renegade soldiers, pay the blood money of a military police officer he killed during the gunfight.

The court sentenced other army officer to death for killing two defendants at a court in Jowhar town in February this year. 18 other soldiers, who fought alongside Shegow, were sentenced to 6 months in prison.
