MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Traditional leaders of northern Somalia’s Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions (SSC) said on Saturday that they will not select MPs representing them in Puntland parliament, ending their decades-long participation in regional politics.
“We decided not to select the 17 MPs [representing SSC in Puntland parliament] and not to participate in upcoming Puntland election,” SSC traditional leaders said in a statement.
“People from Khatumo [another name for SSC] will not be allowed to run for the deputy President of Puntland,” the statement adds.
