MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Sunday met with Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Djibouti to discuss issues, including the fight against Al-Shabaab insurgents.
Austin said they discussed “our shared efforts to counter al-Shabaab and acknowledged the courage and sacrifice of the Somali people as we work together to tackle challenges that lay ahead.”
The meeting came days after Somali President took a secret trip to the neighboring Horn of Africa nation following a request by his government for the delay of the withdrawal of about 3,000 African Union peacekeepers scheduled for this month.
