MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The speaker of Somaliland parliament Abdrisak Khalif announced his resignation on Sunday due to the war raging in the town of Lasanod where separatist region’s troops are battling local forces seeking a reunification with Somalia.
Khalif told reporters that he resigned as the break-away region’s speaker of parliament and renounced both his parliament seat and membership in Waddani opposition party.
It came days after Somaliland authorities called on the separatist region’s Supreme Court to dismiss Khalif, alleging that he had violated the constitution and supported armed groups in control of the town of Lasanod.
