MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said an upcoming joint offensive by Somali army and troops from neighboring countries of Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya will force the rebel group to the negotiating table.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Mohamud said “we’ll have more forces and more capacity right now than we had in the previous phase” of military operations against insurgents.

“Al-Shabaab still feels it can survive, and we also believe the opportunity for negotiations is not yet mature,” he added.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who declared an all-out war against Al-Qaeda-affiliate last year, said the ongoing fighting will “will end up with negotiations.”
