MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab attacked two army bases in south Somalia on Wednesday ahead of government-announced offensive.
In a statement the rebel group said it had killed 32 soldiers and destroyed two military vehicles in dawn attacks on army camps in Barsanguni village outside the coastal town of Kismayo and Bardere town on the outskirts of Baladweyne.
Somali army and regional authorities have not immediately commented on the assaults.
It came days after militants displayed a military vehicle and weapons seized in an attack on base housing Turkish-trained troops in the Middle Shabelle region.
