MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab stormed a military base in south Somalia on Tuesday, killing at least 7 soldiers including base commander, officials said.
Somali military officer Captain Adan Nur told Reuters news agency that rebels had launched a dawn attack on a base in Hawadley village, where they had been forced out last year, killing their commander and a number of soldiers.
Al-Shabaab armed group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had killed 63 soldiers and seized a number of military vehicles and weapons. Somali army chief Odowa Yusuf Rage said only 5 soldiers were killed in the assault.
