MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday expressed hope that his government would end more than a decade-long Islamist insurgency by 2023, hours after the army seized a town in the Middle Shabelle region.
Mohamud boasted about achievements by his government in the last 6 months, including mobilization of the army and clan militias for an offensive against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
He stressed that his government is planning to complete the draft constitution and achieve its debt relief program.
