MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Three people wounded after heavy fighting erupted in the northern Somalia town of Lasanod on Monday night.
Armed militias attacked a base housing Somaliland troops following days of deadly violence and protests in the restive northern Somali town.
Residents were seen in the streets over the past days demanding the withdrawal of separatist region’s forces despite calls for calm from the international community and Somali federal authorities.
Puntland Vice President Ahmed Karash earlier mobilized troops to recapture the town from Somaliland authorities but failed to win the support of regional President Saeed Abdullahi Deni who has deployed regional forces in the surroundings of Bosaso to sweep himself to victory in an upcoming election.
Tensions are still simmering in Lasanod amid communications blackout.
