MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday met elders and officials in frontline towns in the central regions of Hiran and Galgadud during a trip aimed at reinvigorating a slowing offensive against militants.
In a speech to the local officials, Mohamud promised that his government will speed up efforts to give the frontline towns an access to basic public services. He promised that authorities will construct an air strip in the town of Mahas in Hiran region, which has been epicenter of clashes with militants over the past months.
Local officials and elders briefed the president about economic and military obstacles that have recently paused operations against militants in the two central regions.
