HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland House of Representatives has removed quota for women, several years after it was introduced by the government of the break-away state.
The Interior Affairs Committee for the House of Representatives invalidated the 30% quota for the women in the self-declared state following amendments made to the national electoral law.
Members of the Committee have not yet briefed media on the specific changes made to the bill apart from removing women’s 30% quota.
The allocation was introduced during the reign of President Ahmed Silanyo due to pressure from local activists and international community members.
