Blast Rips Through Kenyan Military Convoy in Somalia, Killing 7 Soldiers

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – At least 7 Kenyan soldiers were killed when their convoy had been targeted by roadside bomb explosions in south Somalia’s Lower Juba region and Lamu County in Kenya.

A military vehicle carrying Kenyan peacekeepers struck a roadside bomb outside the town of Ras Kamboni in the Lower Juba region of South Somalia on Saturday, residents said. At least 7 Kenyan soldiers are said to have been killed, with several others wounded.

The Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out by the attack and killed 8 soldiers, though Kenyan defense forces have not immediately commented on the claim.

Kenyan peacekeepers killed a civilian and more than 50 cattle in retaliation for the explosion. Three others wounded, all of whom civilians, according to Caasimada Online news website.

Another blast targeted Kenyan military vehicles traveling near Kayunga area inside Kenya’s Lamu County. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, but there has no been an independent confirmation and it is not clear if there were casualties.
