Somalia’s PM Accused of Land Grabbing Amid Renewed Rift with President

Somali PM

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is building a private luxury house on a public land belonging to the naval forces, commander of Somali Navy Abdihamid Mohamed Dirir said Monday.

In a press conference, Dirir said the PM and other senior government officials were involved in what he described as “land grabbing”, adding that the land is essential for efforts to further augment the capacity of the Navy and reach of its operations.

The Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, who is reportedly under pressure from the president over the sacking of 7 members of an election team, has not immediately commented on the claims.

Somalia’s former Custodial Corps chief Bashir Gobe responding to the comments, denied that the land belongs to the Somali Navy and alleged that the claims made by Mr Dirir are aimed at pitting the Prime Minister against the incumbent president, in a new wrangling that could undermine ongoing elections.
