Somalia’s Opposition Leaders ‘Want Return to Arta Tent’: Puntland President

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The leader of northeastern Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland Saeed Abdullahi Deni said on Sunday opposition leaders were willing to return the country to “Arta tent” as they formulated plans to form a council that would oversee parallel elections.

In response to calls by the Council of Presidential Candidates for election delay, Deni said such moves could pose a significant danger to the state-building efforts and polls should continue with corrective measures being taken to bring an end to the current tensions.

Speaking at the 3rd anniversary of the election of Southwest President Abdiasis Laftagaren, Deni heaped praise on his counterpart for achievements he said would not have been accomplished in three years.

His speech surfaced escalating differences with the presidential candidates, who now seem to have have been cornered and unable to have leverage on the electoral process.
