NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – The leader of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) Debretsion Gebremichael, whose forces control the northern war-hit region of Tigray and are battling Ethiopian federal troops, said Abiy Ahmed’s government  is “near its demise”.

In a new video message, Mr Gebremichael stressed that pullouts of his forces from front-line areas were tactical and were due to vast resources, including manpower mobilized by the Ethiopian government to come out as the triumphant side in the year-long conflict.

He said there were external actors involved in the conflict, though did not mention them.

Until the enemy is completely buried, the fighting will continue and we will eventually finish the work we started,” the Tigrayan leader said.

His remarks come after Ethiopian troops captured a number of towns in Amhara region, in the first gains since the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed headed to the front-lines.
