MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – African Union peacekeepers on Sunday shot dead a Somali national who had fatally stabbed a Ugandan soldier at the heavily-fortified Halane base in Mogadishu, Caasimada Online news website reported.
The stabbing and the subsequent shooting occurred at the Madina Gate of Halane base, which is home to a number of diplomatic missions, including those of the United States, the United Nations and the United Kingdom.
African Union peacekeepers cordoned off the area and closed roads leading to the base shortly after the incident. There have been no immediate comments from Somali authorities and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
