The military official was traveling on the road linking the towns of Wisil and Ba’adwayne in the south of Mudug region on Saturday when the explosion took place.
His aide Colonel Dayib Osman and two other soldiers were killed after a vehicle they were traveling in struck a roadside bomb near the town of Ba’adwayne, a local military official said.
The attack “did not disrupt General Bihi’s” tour and his efforts to beef up security in the area, he told Somaliguardian, asking for anonymity for fear of being identified.
Al-Qaed-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack and killed four soldiers, including a senior military commander.
Somalia’s army and Galmudug regional officials have not officially commented on the bombing, which comes weeks after allied federal and regional troops, with US air support, advanced into a rebel-held town.
