MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab on Sunday attacked at least two army bases near Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The attacks targeted bases in the town of Awdhegle in the Lower Shabelle region, some 80km southwest of the Somali capital. In a statement, militants said they had killed at least 59 soldiers and seized weapons, and soldiers.
The insurgents also released images showing dead bodies of soldiers and prisoners of war they had captured.
Meanwhile, Somalia’s government said troops had repulsed dawn attack on Awdhegle town and killed at least 20 militants. State media published images showing dead bodies of several alleged militants.
