NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – At least 30 bodies have washed up on the Sudanese banks of a river that borders Ethiopia’s northern region of Tigray amid escalating conflict between Ethiopian federal troops bolstered by forces of a number of regions and the Tigrayan rebels.
The corpses were found in the Setit River, which is known as Tekeze in Ethiopia, a de facto borderline between territory held by Tigray forces and areas under the control of Amhara forces allied with Ethiopia’s federal government.
At least 38 bodies were recovered this week and were buried in Sudan, Dr. Tewodros Tefera, a surgeon who escaped from the Ethiopian border town of Humera, was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying, who also confirmed to have buried 10 bodies.
Other Sudanese witnesses and Ethiopian refugees told Reuters on condition of anonymity that they found nine bodies, adding that those behind their killing “tied them up with a rope and they were swollen, but there’s no marks of them being hit or shot”.
