MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A female employee at Somalia’s spy agency was “assassinated” over politically sensitive information after she had been duped into returning to the country by senior officials, a member of the Somali parliament said on Thursday.
Parliamentarian Mahad Salad said Ikran Tahlil, a young woman who has been missing for several weeks, had been assassinated in a plot designed by the country’s intelligence chief Fahad Yasin and his deputy.
In a statement on his Facebook page, the politician noted that the young woman was killed because of politically sensitive information, including the murder of former mayor of the capital Mogadishu Eng. Yarisow and youths deployed in Ethiopia’s Tigray region to participate in the war raging there.
“The assassination was co-planned by Fahad Yasin [Somalia’s spy chief] and Kulane Jiis [deputy Somali spy chief] and Yasin Farey was assigned with the execution of the plot,” Mahad Salad, a member of Somalia’s parliament said, adding that hundreds of thousands of US dollars had been allocated for the plot.
Somalia’s government has not immediately commented on the claim and officials reached for comment by Somaliguardian declined to speak on the issue. Somaliguardian has not been able to verify the MP’s assertion, which comes days after the young woman’s family pointed finger at the Somali intelligence agency, saying she was picked overnight by a vehicle belonging to the agency in a heavily surveilled area in Mogadishu before she went missing.
