MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed said on Friday that 9 soldiers had been killed and at least 17 others wounded in an ambush carried out by a new rebel group based in Sahil region.
The attack targeted a convoy of Somaliland special police force near Ga’an Libah Mountain where the rebel group had set up a base several weeks ago.
Somaliland authorities alleged that the rebel group is affiliated with the leader of Waddani opposition party Abdirahman Irro, though he has later dismissed the claim as groundless, calling for a peaceful end to the violence.
