MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Mortar shells landed on a military base in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Tuesday, a day after a suicide bomber killed at least 25 soldiers in an attack claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group Al-Shabaab, Caasimada Online news website reported.
Some of the mortar rounds fell inside Maslah Army Camp, which is home to hundreds of soldiers who are expected to participate in an upcoming offensive against militants.
Casualties by the shells have not been immediately known and there have been no comments from authorities on whether the shells caused fatalities.
It came a day after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest inside Jaalle Siyad Military Academy where hundreds of soldiers were lined up, killing at least 25 personnel and wounding more than 70 others. Al-Shabaab claimed killing 73 soldiers in the bombing.
