MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A suicide bomber killed at least 13 soldiers in a military academy in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Monday and wounded at least 20 others.

The attacker targeted soldiers who were lined up inside Jaalle Siyaad Military Academy in the heart of the Somali capital. The soldiers were reportedly relocated from the Lower Shabelle region to receive a new training, according to Reuters news agency.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the bombing, saying it killed 73 soldiers and wounded more than 100 others. It comes days after the group carried out a number of raids in Mogadishu, in what authorities attribute to installed military operations in the southern and the central regions of the Horn of Africa nation.

On Sunday, the group seized the village of Gofgadud Burey on the suburbs of the Baidoa following a surprise attack on allied regional and federal troops stationed in the area, days after it had lifted a siege on the large southwestern Somali town.
