MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Food aid for flood victims in central Somalia’s Hiran region was diverted by local authorities , Somali MP Dahir Amin Jesow said on Wednesday amid growing reports of corruption in aid sent to flood-hit regions.
“The aid sent did not reach those in need and the 50 vehicles [carrying the food consignments] were diverted in the countryside,” the MP told the parliament.
“No one was arrested and held responsible, and no one was dismissed. The 500 thousand dollars spent in the transportation of the food aid and the supplies on the trucks are still unaccounted for,” he added.
