MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – President of south Somalia’s Hirshabelle State Ali Gudlawe on Sunday sacked the governor of Hiran region Ali Jayte Osman, who was leading clan mobilizations and fight against Al-Shabaab insurgents in the central region.
Abdullahi Ahmed Malin was appointed to replace Jayte, in what the state president said aimed to boost public services and reunite communities in the restive region.
It came weeks after Jayte announced he had quit the fight against the Islamist militants, citing the government’s move to request the deployment of thousands of troops from Ethiopia, Djibouti and Kenya to take part in an anticipated second offensive against Al-Shabaab.
It has not been immediately clear whether the dismissal is directly related to the remarks by Jayte, but there has also been a dispute between regional officials over the past months.
