Somalia’s drought envoy accuses govt institutions of incompetence

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s special envoy for drought relief on Saturday criticized government institutions for incompetence, a day after heavy rains inundated the capital leading to floods that blocked traffic in a number of the city’s neighborhoods.

Abdishakur mentioned lavish overseas trips by government officials, pursuit of personal political gains rather than national interest and ineptitude to provide essential public services.

In a write-up on Facebook, the Somali official added that only the President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is committed to the fight against the Al-Qaeda-affiliate of Al-Shabaab while other government officials are busy in pursuing their personal interests.

It came weeks after the official accused Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of failing to forge cooperation between ministries and other government institutions.
