MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi told a number of Western ambassadors that his government is ready to end the war raging in the town of Lasanod through dialogue.
In a Zoom meeting with ambassadors including those of the United States, the United Kingdom and France, Bihi said the break-away region’s authorities pulled troops from the town and announced an unconditional ceasefire to give peace a chance, blaming local traditional leaders for the continued violence.
Somaliland has been under pressure from Western diplomats to withdraw troops from Lasanod and negotiate an end to the fighting there with SSC authorities. The conflict has left thousands of people dead and displaced tens of thousands of residents.
