Somalia’s PM says probe underway into soldiers arrested following hotel attack

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Friday said a probe is underway into soldiers arrested on suspicion of facilitating a recent Al-Shabaab attack on Villa Rose Hotel near the presidential palace.

The Premier told state TV that as part of efforts to ensure accountability, soldiers manning security checkpoints near the presidential palace were arrested, to face charges on facilitating gun and bomb attack on an upscale hotel, which was popular with officials.

“We want that that investigation reaches a successful end, but I want to tell you that all suspects were arrested and are being investigated,” Barre told state TV.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud earlier accused security forces of helping militants carry out complex attacks in Mogadishu’s green-zone, including the security perimeter of the presidential palace.
