MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least four people are said to have been wounded after AMISOM troops opened fire at civilians in Karan district of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses who spoke to local media said AMISOM troops opened fire at civilians after their military convoy was targeted by a roadside bomb.
At least four people wounded as a result of the shooting, among them a couple and their daughter.
The casualties inflicted by the roadside bomb on the targeted troops are so far unknown, but witnesses who saw the attack happen say a damaged military vehicle was removed from the street while soldiers temporarily halted traffic.
In a similar incident, at least 8 civilians were killed and more than a dozen others wounded when AMISOM troops opened fire following a roadside bomb explosion at Suqa-holaha neighborhood in Mogadishu, several weeks ago.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast on AMISOM troops, but the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab often carries out attacks on African Union and Somali government troops.
The attack comes a day after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a gathering of police officers near Mogadishu’s seaport for which the Al-Qaeda-linked group claimed responsibility, saying it killed 12 officers, an assertion Somali government denies.
