MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s former prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire said he apologized for December 2017 attack on the home of presidential candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur after meeting him in Mogadishu.
Mr Khaire who was prime minister at the time announced on Friday that he “apologized for the harm inflicted on him [Abdirahman Abdishakur] and his guards” by 17 December 2017 attack on his home, which was also serving as an opposition party headquarters.
The announcement has come following former prime minister’s visit to the home of Wadajir opposition party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur on Friday night, where the two officials discussed forging cooperation ahead of the country’s elections.
In response to Khaire’s statement, Mr Abdishakur posted on his official Facebook page that the former prime minister “apologized for the 17 December 2017 attack” and called on other government officials behind orchestrating the overnight raid – that left five people dead – to follow suit.
Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur was arrested in the overnight raid, sustaining injuries over allegations of collusion with foreign countries, though government officials did not specify names.
