MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – An explosion has taken place near a police academy in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, targeting officers who were attending a popular restaurant.
Reports from the city say a man wearing an explosive vest blew himself up inside a restaurant popularly attended by security officials next to General Kahiye Police Academy in the capital’s Hamar Jajab neighborhood.
Ambulances have been seen rushing to the scene of the explosion to evacuate injured people with the area being cordoned off by police to prevent further attacks.
Many are feared dead with scores wounded as the explosion went off inside the busy restaurant while it was attended by dozens of police officers, officials and government employees.
No one has claimed responsibility and the government has yet to comment on the attack.
