MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended the African Union summit in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa amid simmering tensions with the land-locked East African neighbor over a sea access deal with the break-away region of Somaliland, Villa Somalia said on Saturday.
“During his address to the meeting, the President called for collective steps to be taken to establish effective mechanisms for addressing the emerging peace and security crises across the continent,” Somali President’s media office said in a statement.
“The President denounced Ethiopia’s recent actions, specifically the signing of a Memorendum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland, a region within Somalia, to gain access to the sea. He characterized this move as an annexation of another country’s territory.”
