Somalia Government Announces That Opposition Parties Will be Attending Upcoming Dhusamareb Meeting

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –Somalia’s Minister of Information Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye speaking to state media said opposition parties will be attending the upcoming Dhusamareb meeting between the country’s political stakeholders.

Mr Mareye stressed that opposition leaders had right guaranteed under constitution to be part of the recent meeting held in the town of Dhusamareb and that their participation was vital in coming to agreement over a number of issues at a crucial moment.

The Minister said the Dhusamareb’s forthcoming meeting will seek an exclusive approach to bring together all of Somalia’s political stakeholders, adding that necessary decisions would not be reached without the presence of opposition parties.

Recent meeting held in Dhusamareb between federal and regional member states gave way to a dramatic shift to Somali government’s policy toward country’s federal member states. The government had earlier insisted that MPs are representatives of their regional states and as such, would talk to them over issues seen crucial for this transitional period.

It has later appeased to a growing international pressure, mainly from the US and UN envoys in Somalia who pushed for an inclusive venue in which all the country’s political stakeholders could decide on matters pertinent to upcoming elections.
