Somalia’s Former President Calls on Government to Consult with Opposition on Election Models

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –In a press conference held in Mogadishu, Somalia’s former president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud accused the federal government of failing to complete electoral process leading to popular elections set for 2020/21.

Mr Mohamoud hailed Dhusamareb meeting between leaders of federal member states and the federal government as a constructive step taken forward, calling on both sides to reach consensus over contentious election issues.

He added that opposition figures will be satisfied with any agreement that comes as a result of consultative approach and that government needs to consult with opposition on election models.

Opposition Forum for National Parties has recently been expressing concerns over feared delay in elections.

More recently, leaders of federal member states and the federal government have been discussing election models and other contentious issues in preliminary talks held in the town of Dhusamareb.
