Somalia’s Puntland State Reconsiders Attending Dhusamareb Conference

Puntland

MOGADISHU (somaliguardian) –President of Somalia’s Puntland State Saeed Abdullahi Deni said his government would reconsider attending Dhusamareb meeting scheduled to be held between federal member states and the federal government.

After returning from a trip to Djibouti on Sunday, Mr Deni said the government of Prime Minister Khaire – that was responsible for implementing terms of an agreement with federal member states – was removed and that the president has not yet appointed a new PM.

Speaking on President Farmajo’s speech to parliament on Saturday, Mr Deni reiterated that the remarks represented the federal government’s resistance to hold elections on time and that popular elections would not take place on due date, given that the government’s term is expiring within 3 months.

Puntland’s president Saeed Deni said his government would reconsider attending Dhusamareb summit which is expected to host leaders of the federal government and regional states to reach consensus on election models.
