MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) –Fighting took place in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu between Somali government troops and Al-Shabaab militants, local officials have confirmed on Monday.
Militants attacked a base housing government troops in Suuqa-xoolaha neighborhood, north of the capital Mogadishu.
Residents say they heard fierce exchange of gunfire and explosions on Sunday evening, which lasted for more than an hour.
At least one soldier was killed and 2 others wounded in the attack as confirmed by Huriwa district officials.
Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack. The group often carries out attacks in the capital and other cities across Somalia. On Saturday, it claimed credit for a suicide car bomb attack on military base in the capital that left at least 20 army members dead and more 30 others wounded.
