MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Hundreds of Ethiopian Jews, who were forced to flee their villages amid escalating conflict in the Horn of Africa nation, have crossed the border into neighboring Sudan, Sudanese local media reported on Friday.
At least 3,000 members of the Ethiopian Koment Jews reached the village of Taya in Sudan’s Fashaqa triangle this week after some of their villages, including Shahidi had been stormed by Fano, an armed group of Amhara militias.
Members of the ethnic group inhabit a number of villages near the town of Gondar in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, stretching northeast to areas close to the Sudanese border.
