Six Ethiopian nationals killed in southern Somalia’s Gedo region

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Seven people, including six Ethiopian nationals were killed in an overnight attack in the southern Somalia town of Beled Hawo in Gedo region on Sunday, officials said amid escalating tensions over Addis Ababa’s recent sea access deal with the break-away region of Somaliland.

In an interview with VOA Somali, the mayor of the town said that five women and two men were killed after gunmen attacked their home after midnight. Six of the victims are said to be of ethnic Oromo while the seventh is Somali woman.

The attackers injured six other Ethiopian nationals. Authorities have not yet established whether the incident is linked to tensions over recent controversial port deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
