MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The visit of a Somali diplomat to Israel has triggered an uproar in the Muslim country and calls for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s government to give an explanation, Caasimada Online news website reported on Tuesday.

The diplomat Eid Bedel, who formerly served as Somali ambassador to the United Nations, attended a meeting aimed at initiating cooperation between Arab countries and Israel, which was organized by Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.

It came weeks after Israeli media reported that Jewish authorities were planning to normalize relations with Somalia, adding that the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was keen to forge ties with Israel.
