WASHINGTON (Somaliguardian) – The US Senate acquitted former president Donald Trump on Saturday in his second impeachment trial within a year after fellow Republicans blocked conviction over his role in deadly assault by his fellowers on the US Capitol.
The vote of 57-43 fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict Trump on a charge of incitement of insurrection. His trial continued for 5 days in the same building ransacked by his supporters on January 6 after listening to his fire-raising speech.
In the Senate vote, seven of the 50 Senate Republics joined the chamber’s unified Democrats in favoring conviction.
It is the second time in a year an impeachment trial against Donald Trump has failed.
