MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least 12 soldiers were killed and more than 10 others wounded after militants ambushed their convoy on the outskirts of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu on Tuesday.
The intelligence head of Daynile district Abdi Yare was among soldiers killed in the attack claimed by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group Al-Shabaab.
It came just days after the group’s fighters ambushed the motorcade of district commissioner in which militants captured a military vehicle, though Daynile administrator escaped unhurt.
The DC later took an inspection tour to the outskirts of Daynie district and told media that calm returned after militants had left the area.
A roadside bomb targeted a convoy of troops near Ali Mahdi Farm in the district before an exchange of gunfire between local forces and militants erupted, which lasted for more than half an hour, according to residents.
