MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s army backed by clan militias and US drones on Monday captured the village of El Garas in the central region of Galgadud in push to retake key Al-Shabaab strongholds.

Galmudug state President Ahmed Qoorqoor, Somali spy chief Mahad Salad and Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur visited the small village hours after government troops had taken its control.

Meanwhile, a regional MP and a city councilor were among three people killed in a roadside bomb explosion in village in the early hours of Monday.

Somali government troops and clan militias are advancing to the strategic town of El Bur, which they had vacated a few weeks ago after militants closed their supply routes and attacked a nearby town, killing dozens of soldiers and seizing a number of armored military vehicles.
