MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – US military said on Thursday it had killed 5 Al-Shabaab militants in a new “self-defense” air strike in central Somalia’s Galgadud region.
The strike took place in Hareeri Kalle area near the town of Gal’ad this week and was conducted at the request of the Somali federal government, according to the US Africa Command (AFRICOM).
“Working with the Somali National Army, U.S. Africa Command’s initial assessment is that the U.S. airstrike killed 5 al-Shabaab terrorists and that no civilians were injured or killed,” AFRICOM said in a statement.
Earlier, Somalia’s federal government said 100 Al-Shabaab insurgents were killed in the air raid.
