MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia on Monday marked the 63rd anniversary of independence amid renewed internal strives that claimed the lives of dozens of people.
Former presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and other well-known politicians congratulated the Somali people on the Independence Day.
Celebrations marking the day have been held in Mogadishu and other cities in the war-torn country.
Over the past weeks, clashes between rival troops within the federal government and regional administrations erupted in the Lower Shabelle, Bakol, Sool and Nugal regions with tensions simmering in Hiran and Gedo regions.
On Monday, former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed blamed “injustice and oppression” for the renewed conflicts while the former President of Galmudug State Ahmed Duale Haf accused the current administration of failing to reconcile to its of promise of “Somalia at peace with itself.”
